FIA PTG is an association of more than 20 firms that trade their own capital on exchanges in futures, options and equities markets worldwide.
We’re active in a wide variety of asset classes, including equities, fixed income, foreign exchange and commodities. And we use a number of different methods of trading, including manual, automated, and hybrid techniques.
Principal traders serve as a critical source of liquidity to markets—we bridge the gap between buyers and sellers who may not be in the marketplace at exactly the same time. Principal traders can buy when sellers are ready, and sell when buyers are ready. That keeps markets liquid, which allows investors to make transactions and manage their risk more easily and efficiently.
As an association, FIA PTG advocates for open access to markets, transparency, and data-driven policy.
We’re also working to bring greater clarity to discussions on market structure, automated trading, and regulatory policy. Through this blog, we will be sharing our views contributing to an informed and fact-based discussion of these critical topics.
Thanks for joining us in this effort. Check back soon for our first post.
