Peter Karpen was chairman of the FIA in 1994 and 1995. At that time, he was director of the futures and options at Credit Suisse First Boston. During his chairmanship, he was deeply involved in the international response to the Barings crisis and brought together a task force of more than 60 participants from 17 jurisdictions to draft a comprehensive set of recommendations for end-users, intermediaries, exchanges and clearinghouses. He later joined John W. Henry & Co. as a managing director, and today continues to be involved in the alternative investment field. He has been a public director at the New York Board of Trade since 1998 and has participated in a number of industry committees, including the Commodity Futures Trading Commission’s financial advisory committee and regulatory coordinating committee.
