Barbara Dixon was one of the first women in the managed futures business. She began her career as an assistant to Richard Donchian, the father of trend following, from 1970 to 1973. In subsequent years, she wrote many of his market letters and ran his 5 and 20 system until 1989. She later founded Spackenkill Trading, and independent commodity trading advisor. She also played an active role at the Futures Industry Institute as a member of its board of trustees and contributed much of her time and energy to raising funds on its behalf.
