Roland Chai, the former head of post trade at Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited, is joining Nasdaq as chief risk officer. Chai will be responsible for developing, reviewing and maintaining the exchange's global risk program and will report to Adena Friedman, president and CEO of Nasdaq. He will assume the role on June 1 and will be based in Stockholm. As head of post trade at HKEX, Chai oversaw clearing and risk management functions across equities and fixed income, currencies and commodities, as well as the exchange’s market surveillance. He previously served as group risk officer and head of clearing at Hong Kong Exchange. Prior to this, he was head of equities at LCH.Clearnet.
Meanwhile, Glenda So will join HKEX on Feb. 25 as head of post trade, reporting to HKEX Group’s chief executive Charles Li, and HKEX chief operating officer, Calvin Tai. So, who joins from Allianz Global Investors, has 23 years of experience managing operations teams at international financial institutions in Hong Kong, Mainland China and the U.S., including Goldman Sachs. She was also chief operating officer for the principal investment division of investment firm Sun Hung Kai & Co.
The Managed Funds Association has named Bryan Corbett as its new president and CEO, replacing Richard Baker, who served in the position since 2008. Corbett joined MFA from The Carlyle Group, a global investment firm, where he was a partner and managing director. Prior to Carlyle, Corbett served in the George W. Bush administration as a special assistant to the president for economic policy and as the senior advisor to deputy secretary Robert Kimmitt at the Treasury Department. Before that he served as majority counsel on the Senate Banking Committee under chairman Richard Shelby.
John Berrigan has taken over as acting director general of the European Commission's Directorate General for Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union (DG FISMA) following the departure of Olivier Guersant to the competition division. Berrigan was previously deputy director general.
Former Commodity Futures Trading Commission commissioner Mark Wetjen has joined Miami International Holdings, the parent holding company of options exchanges MIAX Options, MIAX Pearl and MIAX Emerald, as executive vice president, futures and innovative products and executive regulatory liaison officer. He will also serve as the chief executive officer of Miami International Futures Exchange, a wholly owned subsidiary of MIH. Wetjen previously was head of global public policy at the Depository Trust and Clearing Corp. and before that served as CFTC commissioner from 2011 to 2015.
Murray Roos will join the London Stock Exchange Group on April 1 as group director, capital markets and as a member of the LSEG executive committee. Roos will be responsible for LSEG’s global capital markets business across primary and secondary markets and will report to LSEG chief executive David Schwimmer. Roos joins the exchange from Citigroup, where he was most recently global co-head of equities and securities services. Before that he led global equity sales and trading, as well as the multi-asset structuring group. Prior to joining Citi in 2015, Roos spent a decade at Deutsche Bank in several senior roles including EMEA head of equities, head of emerging markets equities and global head of prime finance. He began his career as a derivatives trader in South Africa.
Intercontinental Exchange has appointed Jamal Oulhadj as president of ICE Futures Abu Dhabi, the new exchange ICE is launching to host the world’s first futures contracts based on Abu Dhabi National Oil Company’s (ADNOC) Murban crude oil. Oulhadj joins ICE from R.J.O’Brien where he worked for 14 years, most recently as CEO of R.J.O'Brien (MENA) Capital Limited, based in Dubai. Before that he was chief risk officer and COO at R.J.O’Brien. Oulhadj has also worked at Refco, where he was global head of market risk management for seven years. He started his career at CME as a senior research analyst. In November 2019, ICE announced that ADNOC and nine of the world’s largest energy traders were partnering with ICE on the launch of ICE Futures Abu Dhabi. At the time, Jeffrey Sprecher, chairman and CEO of ICE, described this as a “significant endorsement and strong signal of the potential for Murban to become a new global crude benchmark."
CME Group announced that Bryan T. Durkin will step down as president in May of this year. At that time, Durkin will begin serving as a special advisor to the company, reporting to CME Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Terry Duffy. A 37-year veteran of CME Group, he started his career in 1982 as an investigator. Throughout his career he has led many initiatives for the organization and has most recently been responsible for leading the company's integration of CBOT, NYMEX and NEX.
Rene Keller has joined Standard Chartered as chief information officer of the corporate, commercial and institutional banking business. Based in Singapore, he reports to Michael Gorriz, group chief information officer, and is responsible for technology strategy and architecture. Keller was most recently group data officer and group head of innovation at Deutsche Bank. Prior to this he was the global CIO for private, wealth and commercial clients. Before joining Deutsche Bank in 2016, Keller was group CIO at Deutsche Börse and COO for Information Mosaic, a fintech company. He also held technology roles at Swiss Life, Credit Suisse and UBS.
Ade Cordell, the former global head of equity derivatives at Intercontinental Exchange, has joined Cboe Global Markets as head of business development in Europe as the exchange gears up to extend its derivatives franchise in the region after acquiring EuroCCP last year. Cordell, who left ICE in September 2018, spent 16 years at the company, firstly at Liffe, the London-based futures market that changed ownership in a series of takeovers from Euronext to the New York Stock Exchange in 2007 and finally ICE, where it was renamed ICE Futures Europe in 2014. At Cboe, Cordell reports to David Howson, president of Cboe Europe.
Ari Nakkab has joined Macquarie Group as executive director and global head of compliance for the bank's commodities and global markets division. He is based in New York. He previously worked as global head of fixed income, currencies and commodities compliance at Millennium Management, an investment manager with $37 million in assets under management. Before that he was a managing director at J.P. Morgan in charge of compliance for the global commodities group and the futures and options clearing business.
Gavin Wells has joined 360T Group, Deutsche Börse’s FX unit and multi-bank trading platform, as head of swaps strategy, reporting to Simon Jones, chief growth officer at 360T. Wells previously led ForexClear at LCH, ran FX trading at Citigroup and most recently was head of Europe at Digital Asset Holdings. Based in London, he will work alongside Robin Nicholas, head of swaps product, in driving the 360TGTX MidMatch product, an extension of the 360T multilateral trading facility platform that launched in December 2019.
TMX Group appointed John McKenzie as interim chief executive officer following the retirement of former CEO Lou Eccleston. McKenzie has been with TMX Group for more than 19 years and assumes the responsibilities of interim CEO in addition to his current role as chief financial officer.
Intercontinental Exchange announced the retirement of vice chairman Charles Vice after a 20-year career at the company. Vice will leave at the end of the first quarter and will remain an advisor to the firm until February 2022. Vice was an executive at Continental Power Exchange prior to its rebirth as Intercontinental Exchange in 2000. He served as chief operating officer of ICE in 2001 and added the title of president in 2005. He was appointed vice chairman of the company in 2017.
Broadridge Financial Solutions has appointed Chris Perry as its president, effective March 2. Perry will assume the role from Broadridge's chief executive Tim Gokey, who will remain CEO and a director of the company. Perry currently leads Broadridge's global sales, marketing and client solutions organization and will expand his responsibilities to take a stronger role in leading Broadridge's top clients and partners, overseeing Broadridge International, and coordinating Broadridge's overall growth strategy.
CloudMargin, a provider of cloud-based collateral and margin management services, has promoted Armando Hernandez to the newly established role of executive director, head of North America. Hernandez joined CloudMargin in September 2018 as director of new business development for North America. He reports to CEO Stuart Connolly. Hernandez began his career at Citigroup and has also worked at Algorithmics, Omgeo and Lombard Risk.
Archax, a London-based institutional digital securities exchange that plans to launch in mid-2020, has appointed former UK Financial Conduct Authority supervisor Alex Royle as its chief compliance officer. Royle worked at the FCA over a four-year period, most recently leading the supervisory effort of a number of multilateral trading facilities. Prior to that he served as a seconded national expert in markets policy at the European Securities and Markets Authority. He has also worked with the FCA in equity and derivatives markets supervision. Before joining the UK regulator in 2015 he held various market making and sales trading roles within the fixed income and commodities exchange-traded derivatives space.
FINRA has promoted Jessica Hopper to executive vice president and head of enforcement. Hopper has been Acting Head of Enforcement since Susan Schroeder announced her departure in September 2019. Hopper will report directly to CEO Robert Cook.
James Masserio of Societe Generale has joined FIA's Board of Directors. Additionally, Robbert Booij of ABN AMRO was named chairman of FiA's European Regional Advisory Board, and Ian Nissan of Citigroup was named chairman of the Asia Regional Advisory Board.
