On Oct. 19, the European Securities and Markets Authority published a report on the size of the interest rate, credit, equity, commodity and foreign exchange derivatives markets in the EU. The report, the first of its kind, estimated the size of the EU’s derivatives markets across all asset classes at 33 million transactions with a notional value of €453 trillion ($525 trillion). That estimate was based on open interest for both exchangetraded and OTC derivatives as of Feb. 24, using data collected by six European trade repositories.
