FIA Forum: Frankfurt 2019

European Regulatory Developments

24 September 2019 • 8:30 AM - 5:15 PM

Regulatory reform has been a key focus of Europe’s derivatives industry for the past decade resulting in a range of requirements put in place to ensure robust markets with strong oversight. The industry now finds itself at something of a crossroads with a number of issues impacting how it moves forward from here, including assessing the impact of Brexit; a review of the effectiveness of regulations such as MiFID II/MiFIR and EMIR; and steps to address new challenges such as the demand for sustainable finance, regulation of fintech, crypto assets and benchmarks, as well as an ambition to enhance the euro as an international currency.

This one-day symposium will provide a review of existing regulations, as well as an opportunity to assess the impact of new rules on the listed and cleared derivatives business in Europe, how debates on international oversight could impact cross-border trading and clearing of these products.
