The speakers will discuss the development and role of class action litigation in the commodities field, including the principal statutory claims under the Commodity Exchange Act and the antitrust laws as well as common law claims, the life cycle of a class action, the principal legal issues and defenses raised and strategies employed by plaintiff and defense counsel. The speakers, who are seasoned class action practitioners and defense counsel, will also discuss some of the differences between class actions in securities and commodities. In addition, the speakers will discuss the relationship between government investigations and class actions and their effect on the strategies for defending investigations.
