Senior Vice President—Global Events, Marketing and Communications

General Summary

The SVP of Global Events, Marketing and Communications serves as an integral member of FIA’s senior management team and is responsible for the development and execution of FIA's global strategy around events, marketing and communications. The role directly oversees FIA’s conferences, marketing and communications departments (approximately 15 employees, primarily in Washington, DC, as well as London) to ensure a coordinated advancement of the organization’s mission and priorities through external channels of membership engagement. The role will be a member of FIA’s nine-person Global Management Team (GMT).

FIA seeks a strong leader, communicator and team manager with a preferred background and strong network in the futures markets and financial services industry. Candidates should have experience with association management and a proven track record of strategic vision, cross-team execution and managing global teams.

The individual will oversee FIA’s seven global conferences and eight regional events. This entails developing a strategic brand for each event, improving attendee engagement and experience, and ensuring the financial viability of these events. The role would oversee strategic event programming that works with the GMT to integrate key FIA themes and industry issues into the keynote speakers, panels and event communications. The role would benefit from having a strong industry network and experience in the development of programming and in managing key membership relations.
 

Supervision

The SVP of Global Events, Marketing and Communications will report to the CEO and is a member of the Global Management Team.

Responsibilities

Cross-Departmental

  • Utilize industry experience and relationships to guide strategic decisions on the vision, programming and themes of FIA events and communications.
  • Coordinate the various intertwining responsibilities between events, marketing and communications.
  • Foster a collaborative environment among the teams within the department to develop consistent processes, policies and collaboration.
  • Develop strong relationships with internal C-suite stakeholders to integrate the department within the broader mission of the organization.
  • Participate in board and executive committee meetings to provide updates on major conferences and gather board feedback on strategic priorities.
  • Oversee the P&L of the conferences’ budgets (over $6 million revenues) in close coordination with the CFO, including metrics on expenses, revenues, attendance and engagement.
  • Participate in a steering committee of four senior leaders to set strategic, organizational and cultural objectives for the company.
  • Other responsibilities as designated by the COO and CEO.

Conferences/Events

  • Oversee and evolve the strategy, quality, member experience, financial viability and execution of all FIA global events and conferences.
  • A strategic focus is on reviewing and refreshing each conference to ensure they deliver a unique experience for a specific stakeholder group of members.
  • Oversee the creation and delivery of effective programming reflecting topical issues for the industry and providing a platform for industry dialogue and engagement.
  • Monitor the performance of sales for FIA events against budget, provide strategic support to expand the reach of the business development team and collaborate on new commercial opportunities and sponsorship options.

Marketing

  • Provide strategic guidance on delivery of member value through the promotion of FIA’s member engagement, offerings, events, products and services.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of an integrated global strategic plan for the department to advance FIA's brand identity, broaden awareness of its programs and priorities, and increase the visibility of its mission and objectives across key stakeholder audiences.

Communications

  • Oversee and provide strategic guidance to the communications team and its range of communications products for FIA’s various stakeholders, including member emails, FIA’s MarketVoice magazine, website content, social media, podcasts and coverage of FIA activities and conferences.

Required Competencies

  • Management experience with a background of collaborating across functional departments.
  • Experience in managing trade shows and conferences.
  • Strong knowledge of financial and trade associations with a background in communications.
  • Expertise in/understanding of financial markets.

Desired Competencies

  • Experience with digital communications platforms and analytical tools.
  • Experience in/familiarity with public policy and/or regulation.

FIA observes a hybrid work schedule that requires employees to work in the office every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Employees may work remotely on Mondays and Fridays.
