Head of Learning Experience, FIA and Executive Director of FIA’s Institute of Financial Markets (IFM)

General Summary

This critical leadership role will design and implement FIA’s learning initiatives primarily through FIA’s not-for-profit educational charity, the Institute for Financial Markets (IFM). This position will involve the design, customization and delivery of high-impact learning experiences. In addition to working directly with clients and FIA leadership, this person will manage learning designers and content developers, engage with industry stakeholders and work cross-functionally with all FIA departments. 

The role will lead efforts to further integrate educational programming to support FIA’s mission and help to develop training for industry standards developed by FIA’s standard-setting body, the Derivatives Market Institute for Standards (DMIST).

FIA is seeking an exceptional strategic leader to join its stellar leadership team. This individual must have a passion for the industry and learning, as well as a curiosity of industry trends and how markets work. FIA desires an initiative-taker who can spark innovation and lead sales and marketing efforts while overseeing training course quality and excellence. This role will directly influence the scalability and success of FIA's learning programs.

FIA prefers that the role be based in Washington, DC, but would be open to the role being remote in other market centers with regular trips to Washington, DC. This person will be expected to attend certain FIA conferences and events. This position reports to a Senior Vice President on the Global Management Team.

Responsibilities

  • The role will oversee the strategic direction of FIA’s education, eLearning and training programs by working with the IFM’s Advisory Board, industry stakeholders, educational experts and senior FIA staff to develop a long-term plan that supports FIA’s mission.
  • Responsibilities include creating a strategy and timeline for further developing online industry training curriculum as well as building a certification program, in-person courses and educational materials.  
  • This position also will be responsible for recommending to FIA management the resources and support needed to execute this strategy.
  • The role will oversee the daily operations of the IFM, including sales, marketing and content development and will directly manage a small team of IFM staffers as well as eLearning, technology and content consultants.   
  • The position will ensure the delivery of high-quality products and services in a timely way in support of the long-term strategy, including updating the training curriculum to meet the evolving needs of members and the industry.
  • The role will represent the FIA and IFM externally and build relationships to develop awareness, new opportunities and revenue sources. This function includes maintaining active relationships and awareness with industry organizations (e.g., government agencies, self-regulatory organizations (SROs), exchanges/CCPs, Futures Fundamentals and other trade associations).
  • The position will be a member of the FIA conference programming team, with a specific focus on developing educational content for certain FIA conferences.

Qualifications

  • At least 8-10 years of experience in dealing with eLearning, online training, content development, instructional design, technology and delivery methods
  • Preferred background in financial services with a strong industry network and a passion for markets
  • Self-starter with good communications and organizational skills to efficiently manage multiple diverse tasks at the same time within a broader organization
  • Experience in developing and managing marketing for education programs
  • History of relationship management experience with third-party eLearning platforms and consultants
