Role in derivatives markets: Mitsui & Co. Energy Trading Singapore (METS) was established in Singapore in 2010 as the energy trading arm of Mitsui & Co. (Japan). In 2017, METS entered the liquefied natural gas (LNG) trading sector, and in 2019, it established a branch in London while expanding trading activities in the US and the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. In 2023, in response to global market changes and the need to align with sustainability goals, METS diversified into carbon credit and bio-fuels trading. Mitsui Energy Trading Singapore Ltd (London Branch) is the UK arm of Mitsui Energy Trading Singapore and is responsible for energy trading in Europe on behalf of the Tokyo and Singapore entities, mainly in LNG, crude oil and biofuels.
