This document summarizes the EU Regulation on Wholesale Energy Market Integrity and Transparency (REMIT) registration and reporting requirements, which enter into force on October 7, 2015 for certain exchange-traded energy futures and options and April 7, 2016 for certain over-the-counter energy contracts. The document is designed to help clearing firms inform customers who may have to comply with the new reporting obligation. A central feature of REMIT is the requirement for certain participants in the European wholesale energy markets to register with the national energy regulator in a given EU Member State. Registration is closely connected to the related reporting requirement. Registration applies to both European and non-European market participants, including persons located in the U.S., that enter into power and gas trades that are required to be reported under REMIT.
