FIA EPTA appoints Johannah Ladd as Secretary General

12 March 2014

12 March 2014: FIA European Principal Traders Association (FIA EPTA) has appointed Johannah Ladd as Secretary General; she will be based in Amsterdam. Johannah takes over the position from Mark Spanbroek, who will continue as Vice Chairman of the association.

Johannah takes up this position with FIA EPTA following a long tenure as General Counsel at Flow Traders (a leading international proprietary trading house) advising on a broad spectrum of legal matters. Holding law degrees from both US and Dutch universities, Johannah brings nearly 10 years' experience in the secondary trading markets, having also previously worked for the European Climate Exchange, where exchange-traded emissions products were first listed, as well as Fortis Bank Global Clearing NV (now ABN Amro Global Clearing NV), where she helped strategically develop the clearing product offering across international energy markets. Johannah also bring experience as a journalist: earlier in her career she worked in the London bureau of Dow Jones as an energy reporter.

As Secretary General, Johannah will combine her financial knowledge and legal skills with experience as a communicator, helping FIA EPTA in its continuing endeavour to provide a clear understanding of proprietary trading and electronic trading to the public, press, and regulators.

Remco Lenterman, Chair of FIA EPTA, said, “We are delighted to welcome Johannah to our team at this time. FIA EPTA was founded in 2011 to increase understanding of the important role principal traders play as market makers and providers of liquidity. We are sure that Johannah will prove an invaluable addition as we continue this work with a new European Parliament following the May elections.”

Mark Spanbroek, Vice Chair and former Secretary General, said: “Johannah’s experience, both as a legal counsel and as a journalist with Dow Jones, makes her the ideal person to take on the role.”

Johannah said, “I’m really looking forward to helping FIA EPTA promote the understanding of the role proprietary firms play across Europe. It’s important to FIA EPTA to create a better understanding of trading practices within the industry through developing relationships with regulatory and legislative authorities, the media and other trade associations.”

About FIA EPTA

The European Principal Traders Association (FIA EPTA) was established in June 2011 to represent firms from across Europe who trade with their own capital. We are a subsidiary of the Futures Industry Association (FIA), working together to promote alignment of trading regulation across the world.

We believe that the best markets for all are those which are well-regulated, safe and transparent. Markets which are open to competition and guarantee fair access to all participants. The association voices the opinions of its members to legislators and regulators in Brussels and the EU member states, helping to guide legislation through a better understanding of trading practices.
