FIA board meets in Washington to discuss futures marketplace; Jerome Kemp becomes FIA Acting Board Chair

10 July 2018

Washington, DC - July 10, 2018 - FIA’s board of directors is in Washington this week to meet with regulators and members of Congress to press for policies that promote a fair and competitive landscape for the futures and cleared derivatives industry.  On the agenda will be discussions regarding the unfair treatment of capital rules for cleared derivatives; a call for the Senate to confirm a full complement of commissioners at the CFTC; and implementing cross-border regulation that ensures open access to markets and fair competition.

In addition, the board will recognize Jerome Kemp, Managing Director and Global Head of Futures, Clearing and Collateral at Citi, as the Acting Chair following the departure from UBS of current board chair, Edward Pla.

Kemp, who has been a board member for seven years, will remain the interim board chair until the annual meeting of the board, which is scheduled to take place at FIA’s annual flagship conference in Boca Raton in March of 2019.

“The board has a full agenda, and we appreciate the regulators, members of Congress and their staffs for taking the time to understand what’s happening in the listed derivatives marketplace,” said FIA President and CEO Walt Lukken. “We thank Ed for his contribution to the board and for his significant contributions to FIA.  I look forward to Jerome’s leadership as he helps steward this industry toward a path of sustained growth and smarter regulation globally.”

In March, FIA announced the new board members during the annual meeting, and the full list of the board can be found at fia.org.
