Introducing the ETD Tracker:
This month’s data on futures and options trading is accessible in two formats: a spreadsheet accessible through the link below and a set of interactive visualizations called the FIA ETD Tracker. The ETD Tracker consists of interactive visualizations on the FIA website that allow users to view data on volume and open interest, with filters based on year and month, region and jurisdiction, asset group and type of product. The ETD Tracker also includes visualizations that rank exchanges by total volume in the latest month and year to date as well as open interest in the latest month. Highlights from November 2024:

Worldwide volume of exchange-traded derivatives reached 16.7 billion contracts in November. This was down 18.8% from October 2024 but up 20.3% from November 2023.
Options continue to gain in popularity. Global trading of options reached 14.23 billion contracts in November, up by more than 23% from last year, with most of that trading taking place in the Asia-Pacific region. Global trading of futures reached 2.46 billion contracts in November, up 3% from the same month last year.
On a year-to-date basis, volume in the first eleven months of the year was 192.31 billion contracts, up 59% from the first eleven months of 2023. The majority of that increase came from equity contracts.
Total options volume for the year so far was 166.37 billion contracts, up 74.8% from the previous year. Total futures volume was 25.94 billion contracts in 2024 so far, up 0.7% from 2023.
Total open interest at the end of November was 1.41 billion contracts, the highest level ever recorded. The November total was up 5% from October 2024 and up 8.9% from a year ago.
