Worldwide volume of exchange-traded derivatives was 2.86 billion contracts in the month of March, up 18.7% from the previous month and up 11.7% from March 2018. On a year-to-date basis, volume in the first three months of the year was 7.97 billion contracts, up 8.1% from the first three months of 2018. Total open interest at the end of March was 876.1 million contracts, up 2.6% from a year ago.

Data revision: This month's report includes commodity options traded on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India. These options began trading in October 2017 but data on trading volume and open interest were not available until March 2019. The data for MCX in the current report include all prior monthly periods, and the category and regional totals for 2018 have been updated to include the MCX data.
